Browns, Havells to cut cost of electrical items

Brown and Company entered into an agreement with Havells India Ltd,
an Indian conglomerate to introduce a range of cost cutting electrical
equipment such as fans, cables and lighting systems into the Sri Lankan
market.

Vice President Havells India Ltd, Vijay Malik said Havells India was
floated five decades ago by a person named Guptha, a school teacher with
a vision. He secured companies for Havells India Ltd, from year 2000.
“We have eleven locations in India to manufacture industrial and
household products. The company’s growth rate was around 30-40 percent
every year.” he said.
Havells India secured a conglomerate named Sylvania which has offices
in 42 countries. Havells India has 91 offices and 20,000 distributors
all over the world.
It has some 8000 professionals working for them. “We were the first
to bring in energy saving products which consume 30 per cent less
electricity with less lead content than other products,” he said.
Ranked among the top electrical and power distributing companies in
India, Havells manufactures a range of electrical products from cables
to switch gear, lighting systems and fans, while adhering to
environmental norms.
Havells secured portfolios of several companies such as KEMA
(Holland) CE (Europe) ASTA (UK) SIRUM (Malaysia) SPRING (Singapore) TSE
(Turkey) SNI (Indonesia) ISI (India) for the manufacture of industrial
products.
Director, Brown and Company PLC Ajith Devasurendra said Browns in the
50’s and 70’s was a blue chip company that provided quality goods for
customer satisfaction.
“With products from Havells India, we want to give our customers, an
electrical fan that reduces wattage between 30-40 per cent.
He said the company has diversified its product range by going into
sugar cultivation and dairy products that could save much needed foreign
exchange.
