Medical student injured in hitchhiking trip

A hitchhiking trip ended in a student sustaining grievous injuries
following a brawl.
A Sri Lankan medical student studying in a Californian University was
admitted to the Kandy Teaching Hospital with serious injuries following
a brutal attack by his two colleagues who travelled in the same vehicle
on Friday night, Police Spokesman SSP Ranjit Gunesekera told the “Sunday
observer.” Police have identified the injured medical student as Indika
Prasanna Padeniya (25) who leapt from his car into the Maha-Oya
following the onslaught by his two male companions.
The incident took place around 10.40 p.m. as the victim could not
bear the onslaught.
He had opened the vehicle door and leapt into the river, police said.
Padeniya had accompanied his two colleagues to Matale in a vehicle on a
hitch hiking expedition.
The assault was said to have taken place on their return to Kandy
after an altercation in the vehicle. Padeniya was later rescued from
drowning at the Aban-river by villagers who rushed to the place.
He was sent to the Dambulla hospital and later transferred to the
Kandy Teaching Hospital.
The two suspects, were arrested in the Matale town and are being
questioned regarding the incident. |
