Probe into Kuwait returnee's allegations
The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to
media reports on allegations by a Sri Lankan housemaid, Ms. Chandani
Dissanayake who had recently returned from Kuwait that she had received
no assistance from the Sri Lanka Mission in Kuwait after being allegedly
pushed from the upper floor of a house by her employer.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rohitha Bogollagama has ordered an
immediate investigation into the alleged incident and called upon the
Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait to provide a comprehensive report on this
matter.
The Minister has assured that stern action would be taken against
officers in the Mission, if they are found wanting in discharging their
duties to protect the rights of the housemaid. He emphasised that all
Sri Lankan Missions abroad are duty bound to provide the best possible
consular service and other assistance to Sri Lankans who are in
distress. |
