President Rajapaksa felicitates world carrom champs

CARROM: President Mahinda Rajapaksa felicitated the winners of
the Fifth World Carrom Championships men’s team and runners-up - the
women’s team as well as officials of the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka
at Temple Trees recently.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Carrom Federation of Sri
Lanka and the tremendous success of the players winning the Men’s World
Championship and being runners-up in the Women’s World Championship was
an apt reward for the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka.
President Rajapaksa handed over the cheques from the Ministry of
Sports and Public Recreation to the winners and the runners-up - the
men’s team and the women’s team. The President of the Carrom Federation
- Mervyn Jayasinghe thanked the President Mahinda Rajapaksa for giving
the players and officials of the federation to meet him and handed over
a memento to commemorate the occasion.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa requested the Minister of Sports and
Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge to grant whatever financial aid and
other assistance needed by the players. Minister Lokuge said that he
would grant Rs. 480,000 needed for the immediate purchase of quality
carrom boards.
