Twin brothers Shanaka and Lahiru secure 2nd and third spots

CHESS: Twin brothers - Shanaka and Lahiru Munasinghe from Sri Lanka, with 6.5 points and 6 points respectively, secured the second and third places respectively at the Super Kids Age Group Chess Tournament (under 15) conducted by Sri Sirinivasan Sports Academy in Triplicane, Chennai, India.

There were around 300 chess players at the tournament and K. Karthikeyan Murali of India won the championship in the under 15 age group.

He received the trophy from Mrs Suneetha Wijesuriya - President of the Russian Centre in Colombo, who was the chief guest at the awards ceremony. The other Sri Lankan players who came into the reckoning were: Yasantha Jayaweera who was 8th with 5 points, S. Hafeel and Pasan Meuranga Thenabadu who got 3.5 points and 3 points respectively in this under 15 event.

Senith Suriyaarachchi collected 4.5 points and Yoshitha Atukorale 4 points in the under 10 category and won merit awards.

The eight Sri Lankan players who went for the tournament got the opportunity of playing in the Adyar Times International Rated Chess Championship conducted by the Tamil Nadu Chess Association.
