Kandy Cagers clinch a double

Kandy Cagers clinched a double when they became champions at the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship organised by the Kandy District Basketball Association and sponsored by Dialog GSM and worked off at the Trinity College courts in Kandy.

In the Championship for women Kandy Cagers swamped Kandy YMCA 31-8 in the finals after leading 17-4 at the breather.

Anusha Jayawardena of Kandy Cagers was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

Newcomers to the club tournament Old Pushpadanians Basketball club won the third place in the tournament. Kandy Cagers went on to complete the double when they won the men’s Tournament defeating Peradeniya University by a close margin of 38-31 in the finals. At half time Kandy Cagers led 18-11.

C. Krishanthan of Kandy Cagers was adjudged the best player of the tournament. Old Azarians from Akurana won the losers final defeating Kandy YMCA 34-15 to clinch the third place. In the semi finals Kandy Cagers beat Old Azarians 59-32 and Peradeniya University beat Kandy YMCA 48-21. Pradeep Keerthiratne of Dialog GSM was the chief guest and distributed the main awards and also assured that they will be sponsoring this tournament in the future too.
