Several professional bodies, including the Institute of Personnel
Management (IPM) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
have joined hands to host the Human Resources and People's Managers'
seminar, where the world renowned HR Guru Prof. Dave Ulrich will address
the convention on October 24.
The theme of the seminar is titled "Future Proof of Your HR", it will
be held at the Water's Edge Hotel on October 24.
IPM President, Lalith Wijetunga said the key issues of the HR
profession were rapidly changing and managing people have become a
challenge. Those who manage people should understand HR practices in the
present day context as it had undergone a transformation from its
traditional role such as recruitment, salary administration, discipline
and termination.
The Council Member of the IPM C. Hewapatini said surviving in an
environment for HR managers was a difficult task when CEOs thought they
were not performing well.
"Do HR managers understand the expectations of CEOs or merely carry
out their routine tasks," he asked.
Past President and Council Member of the IPM C. Obeysekere said the
present day HR practitioners play the role of a business partner, unlike
the administrative role they played about 30 to 40 years ago.
The HR profession has emerged as a scientific discipline in a
changing world where they grapple with climate change and its impact on
business.
"We need to foresee our future. Where are we today and where will we
be tomorrow," he asked.
He said the seminar was beneficial to HR professionals, CEOs,
academicians and students. "We plan to target about 1,000 persons from
various disciplines," he said.
President, CIMA Sri Lanka Gowri Shanker, CEO of CIMA Sri Lanka
Division, Bradley Emerson and Chairman CIMA Employer Relations Dinesh
Weerakkody, also spoke.
Prof. David Ulrich is the Professor of business at the Ross School of
Business University of Michigan and co-founder of the RBL Group. He has
written 15 books covering topics on HR and leadership. |
