Sir John commemoration today
The commemoration ceremony to mark the 28th death anniversary of the
late General Sir John Kotelawela will be held today at the Kotelawela
Defence University (KDU) commencing 0930 hrs.
Under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor of KDU, Major General S.K.
Balasuriya, students in the undergraduate and postgraduate defence
divisions will participate at a parade in memory of the university's
distinguished founder. "The commemoration ceremony will also mark the
first year anniversary of the christening of Kotelawela Defence
University by President Mahinda Rajapaksa", the Vice Chancellor
revealed. The Kotelawela Defence Academy was renamed Kotelawela Defence
University under the amended Parliament Act No. 27 of 1988.
With a motto 'For the Motherland Forever', the KDU registered their
last batch, the '25th Intake' and will be processing applications for
the new intake by the end of the year. The university is the first and
the only of its kind in Asia, being a military university. KDU is
affiliated to the Association of Commonwealth Universities and offers
international students scholarships as well. ND
