Christian Literary Festival on Oct. 6
A national Christian Literary Festival has been organised for the
first time by the Department of Christian Religious Affairs of the
Ministries of Religious Affairs and Moral Uplift and the Catholic and
Christian Councils.
The festival will be held on October 6 at 3pm at the BMICH.
According to the Director Department of Christian Religious Affairs
A.R. Gunawardana, the Literary Festival will be conducted in five stages
and the arrangements are as follows:
Competition comprising essay writing, speech, singing, and short
drama script will be held among sunday school students covering the
entire island in all three languages under four categories (under-10,
12, 16 an 20). The winners will be awarded prizes and certificates at
the national festival.
An appreciation for the artists who have rendered yeomen service for
Christian Literature will be recognized and awarded at the festival.
Reprinting and issuing a CD of the Mangala Geethaya written by the
late Rev. Fr. Jacomme Gonsalvez who is the pioneer of Christian
Literature.
Holding a one- day Christian book exhibition at the BMICH on October
6, from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Distribution of text books to selected Sunday School libraries.
The festival will be held under the patronage of Rt. Rev. Dr. Oswald
Gomis, Archbishop of Colombo with the Prime Minister Rathnesiri
Wickramanayake.
