Jobs for Lankans in Europe
There is good potential in Europe for Sri Lankans to work as
migrants, said Minister of Foreign Employment and Welfare, Keheliya
Rambukwella after a successful tour of Europe. Following his
negotiations with the authorities of several European nations, Sri Lanka
will enter into MoUs with Poland and Romania before the end of the year
and with France in January.
Terror defences attacked
Troops of the Army Task Force 1 operating on the western half of the
Kilinochchi battlefront, attacked terror defences in the Manniyakulam
area, 12 kms northeast of Nachchikudha at 12.30 on Friday afternoon,
reports said. According to the reports, troops had found four bodies of
slain LTTE cadres lying in the forward area following the clash.
Turkish President hails Govt

The President of Turkey, Abdullah Gul, in discussions with President
Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the 63rd Session of the UN General
Assembly, praised the determination of the Sri Lankan Government to
eliminate terrorism, which he described as "an example to other
countries that are also battered by terrorism".
Over 52 Tigers killed
Over 52 LTTE cadres were killed in fierce fighting between Government
troops and the LTTE in the Kilinochchi area. Confrontations took place
in Akkarayankulam, Kallayanparawu and Pallawarayankaddu in the
Kilinochchi area and 21 Government troopers were injured in the battles.
Japan funds 15 agro wells
The Japanese Government, through its "Grant Assistance for Grassroots
Human Security Projects' has provided US$ 48,511 (approximately Rs.
5,166,384) to construct 15 agro wells in the Maddyama, Nuwaragampalatha,
DS division in Anuradhapura, which will be implemented by the "Women's
Development Society."
