Lankans eat over 43,900mt biscuits a year
Britannia, a leading biscuit manufacturer in India launched its
brands in Sri Lanka at a ceremony in Colombo recently.
Managing Director, Britannia, Vinita Bali said there is tremendous
scope for the biscuit industry and investors in Sri Lanka.
"We will commence manufacturing biscuits and introduce new flavours
and varieties of healthy products designed for the Sri Lankan market",
Bali said.
Britannia launched in Calcutta in 1918 has its presence in the Middle
East, Africa, North America and Australia. Britannia biscuits are
manufactured locally at the Luckyland factory in Kandy.
Vice President, New Business Development, Atul Sinha said with Sri
Lanka having the highest per capita biscuit consumption in Asia,
Britannia aims to combine taste and nourishment for consumers.
The volume of biscuit consumption in Sri Lanka an year is 43,984 mt
at a value of Rs. 12.76 billion.
