Cargills Food City takes investment to the East
Cargills Food City is intensifying its investment in Eastern Sri
Lanka to mark its 25th anniversary celebrations. Chief Executive Officer
of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, Ranjit Page said the company is investing over
Rs. 150 million in the East.
"The first of our 25 new outlets being launched as part of the
anniversary celebration opened in Batticaloa. We are opening our second
new outlet in Trincomalee.
Ampara is also in the list. It is important for corporates to take
their businesses to this region to bring about economic development in
these areas.
Cargills has therefore taken the initiative of investing in Eastern
Sri Lanka and share our success of the last 25 years with the people of
the East," he said.
Taking Cargills Food City to the East will also bring the dividends
of the Cargills Business model to the region through which the market
would directly reach farmers and smallholder entrepreneurs in the area.
"Cargills currently partners thousands of farmers and smallholder
entrepreneurs through its unique backward integration system.
Cargills Food City uses its widespread retail network covering 148
locations, coupled with its direct link with the agricultural community
and small and medium entrepreneurs to bring affordable and nutritious
food to all Sri Lankans. Now the people of the East can be a part of
this sustainable approach which would contribute towards uplifting the
living standards of consumers, farmers and entrepreneurs,” Page said.
Cargills first ventured into organised retail in 1983 and changed the
norm by taking what was traditionally an ‘affluent’ focused business to
the masses. Today this strategy has accrued benefits to not only the
company’s shareholders but its consumers as well as local communities.
The opening of 25 new outlets to mark the Cargills Food City 25th
anniversary celebrations would be accompanied by the Doren Dorata Road
show partnered by Sirasa FM which would cover 360 locations in 60 days. |
