Dog risks life to save kittens from fire
A
dog was hailed as a hero after it risked its life to save a litter of
newborn kittens from a house fire, rescuers said.
In a case which gives the lie to the saying about 'fighting like cats
and dogs', the terrier cross named Leo had to be revived with oxygen and
heart massage after his ordeal (tough experience).
Fire broke out overnight at the house in Australia's southern city of
Melbourne, where he was guarding the kittens.
Fire fighters who revived Leo said he refused to leave the building
and was found by them alongside the litter of kittens, despite thick
smoke. "Leo wouldn't leave the kittens and it nearly cost him his life,"
fire service Commander Ken Brown told reporters. The four kittens also
survived the fire. Leo, who fire fighters nicknamed 'Smoky', was back at
the house.

DNA reunites stolen puppy with owner
British Police performed a DNA test on a stolen puppy to reunite it
with its owner.
Moss, a newborn collie puppy, disappeared from a farm outbuilding
where it was sleeping with five other puppies from the litter. Its owner,
Graeme Eusden, a farmer from Albury, Surrey, had his suspicions about
who might have taken the dog - and found that the puppy was indeed at
their house.
He called police, who took the dog to a local kennel while waiting
for the results of DNA tests on the puppy and its parents. The tests
proved that it was the missing animal.Eusden said: “I think they had
seen the puppy and just wanted it for themselves.” He said it was “a
very pretty puppy.”
A man and a woman were arrested, but police decided there was not
enough evidence to prosecute.
