Amazing dog stories

On many an occasion, we have heard stories describing the intelligence and ingenuity of our canine friends. The following stories which had appeared in The Spectator are ample proof of this.

In one story, Dr. Walter F. Atlee described how his father, a doctor himself, had found a little brown dog yelping outside his office door.

The dog had been standing on three legs and on closer inspection, the doctor had found a pin stuck on the fourth limb. Once the doctor drew out the pin, the dog had run away again.

Dr. Atlee (Jr) went on to describe another similar incident which had happened to himself.

He had treated a man who had his arm broken: his dressings had been changed many times by the doctor whose work had been very closely observed by the man’s ferocious looking bulldog who always accompanied him to the doctor.

Once, hearing pawing sounds outside his office, the doctor had opened his door to see the same dog standing outside, this time with another dog who had a broken leg. After receiving treatment from the doctor, both dogs had left. (1875)

Once, a porter of the British Royal Infirmary heard a dog howling outside around 6.30 a.m. He drove the animal away, but it returned and continued howling.

The porter noticed that it had an injured paw and got two nurses to treat the wound. The dog showed its gratitude in every possible way.

After receiving treatment for two days, he was sent to a home for lost dogs. Before long, this “interesting” dog had found an owner (1889).

These stories are just a few of the examples of how clever our doggy friends are. Don’t you think that they are just amazing creatures?
