The
21-year-old American gymnast Akila Sacramone was concluding a
disappointing, but high-profile, run at the Beijing Olympics. Now, the
Brown University sophomore is hoping to capitalize on her 15 minutes of
fame by landing a TV job that will give her a chance to focus on her
second passion: fashion.
Sacramone was back in her hometown of Winchester, MA last week
shooting a video treatment for a number of cable networks including MTV,
Bravo and A&E. The U.S. women's gymnastics captain hopes to host a show
where she gives teen makeovers. And, of course, she'd like to be on
Dancing With The Stars.
Back in August Sacramone became nationally known when she fell in
both the beam and floor exercises during the Olympics team final,
earning deductions that might have cost the U.S. team a gold medal.
Four days later, Sacramone was the subject of one of the many judging
controversies during the Games when she placed fourth in the individual
vault competition, directly behind a Chinese gymnast who landed one of
her vaults on her knees.
Her resilience made her a fan favourite as did her good looks, which
helped Sacramone earn the honour of Spin's Hottest American Olympian. If
the TV deals fall through, Sacramone plans on returning to Brown
University to finish her studies. |
