Military wants donations to be channelled
The Sri Lanka Army, now entering its last leg of Wanni humanitarian
operations with its string of ongoing military successes, has been
receiving a tremendous public accolade and recognition in the past few
months as many segments and organisations in the society, both here and
aborad, continue to offer their cooperation, in many instances by way of
collecting loose consumables, water bottles, gift items, etc to be given
to war heroes in offensive.
The Army entrusted with the sacred task of eliminating the LTTE
menace needless to say, acknowledges such gestures and concerns with all
due respect and admiration.
Nevertheless, the Army, at the forefront of the decisive battle as
the prime mover in terms of its responsibility, deployment, military
prowess and offensives, is compelled to take maximum precautions against
such collections, though done in good faith, purely in view of its own
security concerns and risks of any possible tampering. On the other
hand, those well-intended moves might also end up in wrong hands leading
to various malpractices. Hence, the public are accordingly advised not
to continue such collecting practices since the Army does not, any
longer accept such donation of consumable and loose items.
However, anyone still wishing to donate such items may do so in bulk
directly through the respective wholesale agent or the manufacturer.
