Protecting the waters of the country which approximately extends to
400,000 square meters is a mammoth responsibility. It is evident that
the Sri Lanka Navy's most successful era, since its inception in 1950,
could have been the recent past after 2005. Sri Lanka Navy successfully
protected the country crushing the LTTE arms and ammunition supply.
Within just nine months starting from February 2007 SLN destroyed seven
ships carrying illegal arms and weapons to the LTTE terrorists. A large
number of LTTE boats along with terrorists were destroyed since 2007 up
to date in the duty of protecting civil and military passenger ships,
cargo ships and strategically and economically important places. (DY) |
