By Anushka WITHANAGE
CRICKET: Senarath Paranavithana Vidayalaya (SPV), Udugampola has been
playing first XI cricket from 1996. Cricket was introduced to this
school in 1980, but it came to an abrupt end due to various reasons.
In 1998, the under 15 cricket team became champions of the Gampaha
District Cricket Association which organised the tournament.
In 1999, they played a big match against Japalawatta President's
College in Minuwangoda.
In 2006, A.A. Jayatissa assumed duties as the new Principal.
Nilanka Asiri, a young cricket coach has done much to the SPV cricket
team. Cricket now has reached a encouraging standard. Cricketers have
improved in technical and other skills.
Financial constraints hinder the progress of village schools like SPV.
However, the boys are keen to learn the game.
Samantha Guruge (district cricket coach) and Upul Kumara
(master-in-charge) are assisting the team.
Uditha Udara de Silva is the captain of the school's first XI cricket
team and Gihan Sanjeewa who is a member of SPV has also been picked to
play for the provincial team too.

Silva, Damith Prasanna, Chanil Imalka, Lakmal Perera and Roshan Nissanka.

giving all encouragement to the team in a bid to raise the standard of
the game.
