Thilini Jayasinghe in shock defeat

Fourteen-year-old Achini Ratnasiri created a major upset when she defeated the more experienced Thilini Jayasinghe in a three setter in the women's singles semi-final match of the national badminton championships continued at the Royal College indoor stadium in Reid Avenue yesterday.

The bottom seed and the schoolgirl from Lindsay Girls Schools Colombo came from behind with a tremendous performance to clinch the game 14-21, 21-18 and 21-19. Her opponent in the final will be Chandrika de Silva who had the better of the fourth seed Jayani Anuradha in the second semi-final.
