Don Bosco and Hameed Al Husseinia enter semi-finals

Soccer: Don Bosco SC and Hameed Al Husseinia reached the semi finals of the Old Bens Sports Club Golden Jubilee invitation soccer tournament after defeating, Jupiters SC and St. Peter's College respectively in the Quarter Final matches played at St. Benedict's College grounds yesterday.

In the club section quarters between Jupiters SC and Don Bosco SC both sides from Negombo build up attacks in the first half which was evenly contested. There were no attempts to score due to tight defence. The strikers did not show markarship. A half time no goals were produced 0-0.

After the interval Don Bosco had a great opportunity of surging ahead but to their dismay Jagath Kumara missed a sitter unable only to beat the goal keeper. Then at the other end Indika Priyankara Silva scored a goal going solo but refaree G. N. Robesh disallowed with the reasons well-known to him.

At the end of the final whistle the same ended in scoreless draw and the refense implemented penalty shoot out. Don Bosco SC came out victorious with 4-1.

Don Bosco SC will meet Ratnam SC in the semi final on January 31.

A superb goal in the 10th minute of second half by T. M. Shifan enabled Hameed Al Husseinia to pull off a close one nil victory over St. Peters College in the schools quarter final match.

With this win Hameed Al Husseinia will now meet Zahira College in the semi finals on January 31.

Goins flat out for victory Hameed Al Husseinia stung together number of moves in the first 15 minutes which saw St. Peter's College defend their goal area stoutly.

The first half ended with a blank score sheet.

After the breather, in the 10th minute Hameed Al Hussain scored the match winning goal through T. M. Shifan who just slotted the ball in off a neat cross from M. F. A. Rahuman from the left flank.

The main feature of the game was the brilliant goal keeping by Peterite Custodian Dulan Sameera who brought off several spectecular saves. (Refer4ee - Buddhika Dias.

Today's Matches - Isipatana Vs Mazenod College at 2 pm. Old Bens SC vs New Youngs SC Wennappuwa.

Former old Bens famed soccerites - Waldo Fernando, Zeno Fernando, Adrian Vindurampulle, R. Laxman and Malcolm Rodrigo graced the occasion a chief guests for both games.
