Rajans regain Woodward Trophy

Dharmaraja College regained the F. L. Woodward Trophy when they
registered a first innings win over Mahinda College, Galle in their
inter school cricket match concluded at the Open Prison Camp grounds at
Pallekelle yesterday. Last this trophy was won by Mahinda College.
Rajans were set a victory target of 40 runs in one over and they
opted not to bat.
Mahinda College in reply to Rajans first innings total 217 all out
fared miserably to be dismissed for 87 - giving their opponents a lead
of 130. Medium pacer Ruchiranga Dandeniya who mopped up the Mahindians
batting last morning had figures of 5 for 36 and Nuwan Karunaratne took
3 for 30.
Following on Mahinda College fared better and occupied the crease for
82 overs which prevented the Rajans from winning the match outright. V.
Romesh Buddhika top scored with 50 with 6 fours and was only the second
half century of the match.
Medium pacer Ruchiranga Dandeniya once again bowled well to capture 3
for 46 giving him a match bag of 8 for 82. Dharmaraja College: 217 all
out.
Mahinda College: 87 all out in 38 overs (Geeth Hemal 24, Ruchiranga
Dandeniya 5 for 36, Hemal Munaweera 2 for 12, Nuwan Karunaratne 3 for
