The whole `boy turns into a girl’,
`girl turns into a boy’ production by Indu and his talented cast was a
production worth a mention. `Mr. Jekyll and Miss Hyde’ is a play about a
man who turns into a woman and goes about fooling everyone who knows him
all for the sake of a dare!
“The
best way for a man to disguise himself is to masquerade as a woman”,
says the popular movie director and script writer, Kiran Kalasooriya.
His `mango’ friend and producer, Sanath Karsigoda thinking otherwise
says, “No man can impersonate a woman and get away with it”.
Kiran, not giving up easily takes up a bet with Sanath for Rs
1000,000 proving that he can indeed masquerade as a woman and interact
with a person who knows him for at least one hour.
Indu’s character as Kiran and then Radha Tagore (supposedly the great
Bollywood Tagore’s relative) where `she’ is supposed to be a fan of
Kiran’s and has been a business partner for his next film is rather
deceiving planned along the way with the help of his friend. Using quite
a lot of `Singlish’ where Kiran’s character is concerned, Radha uses `Hindglish’
which makes the language very funny.
Meanwhile, Karishma, Kiran’s fiance makes an appearance to surprise
Kiran but is flabbergasted to find out that he isn’t there. Sanwada,
playing the attractive Karishma is well-poised and does justice to her
character.
Wasam Ismail, playing Asanka a.k.a `Assa’ (the Shakespeare Best Actor
last year), plays Kiran’s crazy nephew who is dying to get into film. He
tries to make Radha give him a part where she agrees. Then suddenly a
journalist along with a photographer comes to interview Kiran but they
soon find out why talking to Radha is better.
The way she acts and dances attracts the photographer played by tall
Danu who really is very humorous. The other aspects of this is that this
play offers twist and turns with intrigue you hold your breath because
you wouldn’t know what happens next.

The
script is rather interesting because it has everything you need to
laugh. From character mix-ups to funny jokes and even acrobatic turns,
this drama is definitely worth its weight in gold because it encompasses
romance with humour and zany stunts. The song `Salam E-Ishq’ ends this
drama beautifully with dancing by the cast as the curtain closes.
