Unilever in partnership with STC
Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd. entered into a partnership with the State
Trading Corportation (STC) to supply its range of products to government
establishments at attractive prices.
The STC, the government's leading trading establishment will market
Unilever products at reasonable prices for public servants.
The STC procures goods for all government departments, institutions
and ministries.
Chairman, Unilever Sri Lanka, Amal Cabraal said Unilever has been in
Sri Lanka for over 70 years and all them brands are trusted household
names.
"Over 95 per cent of the products are manufactured in the country and
Unilever will be committed to provide quality products at competitive
prices. The tie-up with STC is a vital step in our quest to serve
customers better", Cabraal said.
Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana said the collaboration is a key
milestone in the journey of both organisations in helping the public
sector and the economy of the country .
"The state intervention to rescue establishments and ensure economic
stability has become increasingly important amidst the intensifying
global financial crisis", he said.
The government has granted several relief measures through Commercial
Centres, Co-op Cities and Laksathosas set up islandwide.
Around 1,000 mini Co-op Cities will be set up this year to provide
essential items at affordable prices.
He said discussions are being held with relevant parties to reduce
the price of cement in line with the drop in world commodity prices.
Chairman, STC, Pradeep Gunewardene said the joint venture will help
market products at discounted rates which will help public sector to
ease the burden on the cost of living of public sector employees. L.F.
