Crafts in Action 2009

Manel Gamage, and her students will hold "Crafts in Action 2009" at
the National Art Gallery on March 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mrs. Manel Gamage has introduced many new embroidery techniques to
Sri Lankan women such as, Blackwork, Needlepoint, Crewel Embroidery,
Stumpwork, Assisi Embroidery, Kashmiri Work, Chamankth Embroidery and
many more. She was trained in Canada, USA, Australia, UK, Singapore and
Bangkok.
She has been teaching arts and crafts for the last 19 years and
has taught around 18,000 students so far. She has also published nine
books in different embroidery techniques and all her books including her
latest "Huck Embroidery" will be available at the exhibition. She has
been giving lessons on Rupavahini, Swarnavahini, ITN, Sirasa and Derana.
There will be tablecloths, wall hangings, cushion covers, bed covers
and other items in different Embroidery techniques and each item would
be unique as all the designs are drawn by Mrs. Gamage. She teaches her
students to do their own creations using different colour schemes as she
thoroughly believe that everybody has an inner talent for creativity.
Australian Aboriginal designs done on wall hangings, cushion covers
and bedspreads will be a new experience.

Sameera Kalupahana’s exhibition of drawings and
paintings titled “Nude” commenced yesterday at the
Lionel Wendt Gallery. It will remain open till March 8
from 8.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
“Nude” is Sameera’s first exhibition and is solely
dedicated to figure studies. |
Trace of difference III

the National Art Gallery, Colombo 7 on March 21 and 22
from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. 42 paintings of
Karunawardana will be on display. Main sponsor is Colour

Clement, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 cake wizard will hold his
26th annual Mal Mee cake show on March 14 and 15 at Sri
Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Colombo from 9
a.m. to 6 p.m.
His theme for this year is Three-D structures.
