Antonian Hiran reaches 1,000-run mark

St. Anthonys' College opener Hiran Wickremasekera scored 104 not out
and became the eighth schoolboy batsman to score 1,000 runs this season
in their inter-school cricket match against St. Benedict's College,
Kotahena which ended in a draw at Katugastota yesterday.
It was Hiran Wickremasekera's fourth century for the season and he
hit 6 fours and put on 73 for the first wicket with Dulash Kumarasinghe
who made 29. Hiran Wickremasekera is only the second schoolboy from
Kandy to get 1,000 runs this season. First being Buwaneka Ekanayake of
Dharmaraja who reached this mark two days earlier.
St. Anthony's College 139 all out and 213 for 6 wickets in 71 overs (Hiran

Rajans in five wicket win

Dharmaraja College, Kandy warmed up for their next week's big match
with a thrilling five wicket win over President's College, Rajagiriya in
their inter-school cricket match conducted at Pannipitiya on Friday.
This was Rajans sixth win for the season. They were set a near
impossible task of scoring 74 runs to win in 9 overs and they threw
caution to the winds and reached the target with 2 balls to spare.
Left arm spinner Ramesh Yapa had a match haul of 10 for 39, to
spearhead the Rajans to victory.
President's College, Rajagiriya: 153 all out and 157 all out in 57.5
overs (P. Wanniarachchi 33, M. Liyanapathirana 27, B. Perera 25, Ramesh
Yapa Bandara 5 for 30, Pratap Silva 2 for 29).
Dharmaraja College: 154 for 3 overnight 235 all out in 58 overs (Theekshana

Narrow shave for Sylvestrians

St. Sylvester's College escaped defeat by the skin of their teeth in
their inter-school cricket match against Trinity College at the Asgiriya
Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
The Sylvestrians were set a victory target of 204 in 50 overs and
they were struggling at 139 for 9 when stumps were drawn.
Trinity's spinner Akila Jayasundera turned in another fine bowling
performance to capture 7 for 54 in St. Sylvester's second innings to end
up with match figures of 13 for 110. He has now captured 98 wickets and
looks set to reach 100 wickets when they take on Prince of Wales College
today at Asgiriya.
Trinity's last year skipper Dilan Gangoda is also set to complete
1,000 runs today as he has scored 980 runs to date. He put on 95 for the
first wicket with Kithmal Wimalasekara who made 32 and Gangoda 69 in
their second innings.
Akila Jayasundara captured his 7 wickets in the second innings after
a small injury whilst batting when collided with a fielder.

Thomians pile up 438/9

St. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia fought back gallantly and
courageously to surpass the formidable score made by St. Sebastian's
College, Moratuwa in their inter-school under 19 cricket tournament
match concluded at Moratuwa.
Resuming at 71 for 1 in reply to Sebs total of 309 for 9 declared
visitors batted throughout the day and when stumps were drawn. Thomians
were 438 for 9 and led on first innings by 130 runs.
The overnight unbeaten batsman M. F. Salim scored a very patient
knock of 141 runs which includes twenty-two hits to the ropes. R.
Niroshan giving a fine support to Salim scored an elegant chanceless
knock of 119 including eighteen hits to the ropes and one over.
St. Sebastian's: 309 for 9 declared.
S. Thomas: 71 for 1 overnight 438 for 9 (M. F. Salim 141, R. Niroshan
