The unique feature this time is that an excessive media campaign is
organised throughout Germany to promote Sri Lankan tourism during the
event, in keeping with the new soft launch, said the Chairman of Sri
Lanka Tourism Bernard Goonetilleke.
Sri Lanka Tourism has also appointed a new German Pubic Relation (PR)
Company Newsplus, to promote Sri Lankan tourism aggressively in target
markets.
Apart from that Sri Lanka Tourism stakeholders participated at this
event with a strong delegation with 40 companies, he said.
He said that under the new branding all communication materials would
be revamped accordingly and this also includes the web site.
Further, Sri Lankan Tourism web site is also upgraded to support the
new move. Chairman Goonetilleke also said the reason being Sri Lanka has
branded as the “Small Miracle” because within a small land area it has
everything to offer for tourists, value for money.
Therefore it also could be considered as the value for money
destination. Goonetilleke said the local trade visiting the ITB includes
hoteliers, travel agents and others in tourism related services.
Despite the security concerns in the North and the East of the
country, the actual tourist areas remain safe for tourists and the
positive approach of the travel trade is made obvious by the continued
participation at crucial professional events such as this.
There have been various exciting new ventures, attractions and
opening of exclusive resorts and hideaways happening in Sri Lanka
tourism scene during the recent years, he said.
