SLAF Seva Vanitha helps displaced citizens

Displaced families in the Morawewa area have been provided with four
tube wells for drinking water and a pre-school for their kids to enable
them to lead normal lives.

To provide safe drinking water to displaced families resettled in
Pankulama in the Morawewa village, four tube wells have been constructed
by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) to
commemorate the International Women’s Day.
The tube well concept was initiated by Chairperson of the SLAF’s Seva
Vanitha Unit Nelum Goonetileke to alleviate sufferings of Morawewa
inhabitants who had undergone hardship when their villages were attacked
by the LTTE terrorists in the past.
The tube wells were commissioned by Chairperson Ms. Nelum Goonetileke
along with Group Commander Leonard Rodrigo at a ceremony held last
Thursday at Pankulama. A large number of families in the Morawewa area
was present on the occasion.
The ceremony was concluded with the distribution of 10 kg of rice
packs, dry rations, clothing items, Aluminium pots, rubber slippers etc
among 75 families. Five wheel chairs were also distributed among five
disabled persons in the area.
Chairperson Nelum Goonetileke, Morewewa Camp’s Group Captain Leonard
Rodrigo, the Divisional Secretary of Morawewa N. Wijeyatileke and ASP M.
Dissanayake distributed the goods among the villagers.
Meanwhile, a Pre-School named Nippuna-Kekula was re-opened at
Moragaswewa. Furniture such as chairs, tables, racks, black boards,
sports goods, books and other equipment were provided by the Seva
Vanitha unit. Young children were provided with a glass of milk before
the proceedings began.
They were also provided with flasks, shoes, socks, and school bags.
Squadron Leader Sureka Dias who read out the Chairperson’s message which
said, “The aim of the Seva Vanitha unit was to develop welfare of the
women folk and children in the Moragaswewa area following the liberation
of Moragaswewa.
She urged parents to send their little ones to the pre-school so that
they would benefit immensely. She said the SLAF also have plans to
provide medical treatment to inhabitants of the area.
