In addition to the inflow of thousands of displaced families to the
cleared areas, 128 patients out of 327 people living in those welfare
camps were brought to Pulmoddai, yesterday. The patients were treated at
the newly established Mobile Hospital staffed by the Indian doctors,
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
These civilians reached Pulmoddai in the chartered passenger
transport vessel, `Green Ocean’ with the mediation of the International
Red Cross officials. At Pullmudai the Sri Lanka Navy helped transfer the
sick to the mobile hospital. Reportedly the patients are undergoing
proper treatment at the moment.
As the Sri Lanka Army’s 55 Division under the command of Brigadier
Prasanna de Silva and 58 Division under the command of Brigadier
Shavendra Silva are closing in on the `No Fire Zone’ in the uncleared
area a distance of approximately two kilometres from the Puthumathalan
North and Puthukuduirippu directions, thousands of besieged civilians
are reported to be reaching the cleared areas, ground sources stated.
According to the displaced families reaching the cleared areas,
people who suffered under the LTTE dispensation are protesting and
burning down the so called “LTTE police stations and other
