Maathru Pooja
Popular singer Sarath Weerasinghe's Maathru Pooja' to mark the 30th
anniversary of his stage performance will be held today at 5.00 p.m. at
Veyangoda, Sanasa Theatre.
His famous hits, 'Me Ath Bhavaye', `Obai Obe Sinaa Podai', `Hitchi
Nage', Ridihawadi etc. are still fresh in the minds of his fans.
His foray into the music world began at the age of 12 when he became
the winner at an open singing contest. It was under the tutelage of
Visharada Dharmasena Jayalath and vocalist Y.M.W. Sena that he further
improved his singing skills.
"Samaru Mihiri Gee" musical concert (1975), Veyangoda Classics,
SLBC's `Pibidena Gayaka Parapura', `Heta Paayana Tharu' provided the
necessary skills to improve his skills. Apart from singing his other
acquirements were confined to sports.
He captained the CTB Volleyball Team and was appointed a member of
Sri Lanka Nationals Volleyball Selection Board.
`Madura Gee', `Swarangee', `Obai Obe Sinaa Podai' and Pawasa Nivana
Gee Amadara' were his popular solo performances. Through his
presentation, `Apsaravi', he gave a helping hand to the amateurs in the
music field. So far he has released a number of CDs and cassettes.
He has made his presentation, Maathru Pooja, an occasion to pay
tribute to his mother who will present awards to 27 artistes who
extended a helping hand to him during the formative years of his career. |
