SLT to launch Lak Roo
SLT VisionCom, a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC
launched the historic Lak Roo television channel, which reignites the
heritage of Sri Lanka on April 5, 2009 as part of a collaborative effort
with the Government Film Unit (GFU).

The event was held at Temple Trees under the patronage of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, who inaugurated the first transmission of the Lak Roo
television channel.
Anusha Palpita, Director General of Government Information, Mrs.
Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and
Thusha Weerasooriya, CEO, SLT VisionCom were also in attendance, along
with a host of ministers as well as artistes from the film industry.
This was held to coincide with the 90th birthday of legendary
national icon Dr. Lester James Peries, whose first documentary 'Conquest
in the Dry Zone' was aired as the first programme on the Lak Roo
channel.
Lak Roo will be available exclusively on PEO TV, a revolutionary new
medium of television entertainment and will feature news, documentaries
and special events in relation to Sri Lankan culture, politics and
society derived from the archives of the Government Film Unit.
Historic event
Speaking on the significance of the launch, Thusha Weerasooriya, CEO,
SLT VisionCom said, "The launch of the 24 hour Lak Roo channel is truly
a historic event, as it will showcase a full spectrum of programs that
will promote Sri Lanka's national, cultural and social identity. |
