verb
Parts of speech:
According to grammarians, there are four forms of the verb. Study the
following table and pay attention to the verb endings under each form.

We can form Verbs from Nouns and Adjectives by adding "en -, - en, be-,
-ize etc.
or by changing the inside vowels.

There are six basic Verb patterns in English.

1. Linking verb with subject complement.

2. Verbs with one object.
I want a pen.

Subashini drinks water.
Lakmal hit her brother.
She won a prize.
3. Verbs with object + verb.
The government wants Prabhakaran to surrender.
She bought a kite to fly.
Father hired a car to visit his mother.
Mother cuts vegetable to cook.
4. Verbs with two objects.
Indrani gave her sister some money.
The teacher taught me English.
5. Verbs with object and object complement.
Jayasena found the job difficult.
6. Verbs without object or complement.
The baby slept.
Susila laughed.
The gate opened.
The wind blows.
