Under 20 waterpolo - May 2
WATERPOLO: The under-20 Waterpolo Tournament for both boys and girls
conducted by the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union
will be worked off on Saturday May 2 at the Police Sports Club swimming
pool, Narahenpita commencing at 9 a.m.
In the boys tournament, the defending champions Royal will field 3
teams, S. Thomas' College will also have 3 teams. Ananda and Nalanda
will have a team each.
Five teams will play in the girls tournament - the holders Bishop's
College, Ladies College `A' and `B', Visakha Vidyalaya and Sri Lanka
Navy.
The undisputed waterpolo champions Royal who have won all tournaments
in 2008 - Ellawela league championships under-20 tournament Sri Lanka
Schools tournament and prestigious Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy will go out
firm favourites to retain the title, fielding the 2008 champion outfit.
As usual, traditional rivals S. Thomas' are expected to offer stiff
opposition to their opponents. Bishop's College will strive hard to win
the girls title the third successive year. Ladies College will be the
main rivals to Bishop's College.
Asian Youth Games
The SLASU Interim Committee has decided to select 12 swimmers (6 boys
and 6 girls) and 4 divers to participate in the Asian Youth Games to be
held from 14th to 21st June in Singapore.
The swimmers who reach the set standards only will be selected for
the Singapore trip. If the swimmers failed to achieve the standard
timings set by SLASU, two swimmers, a boy and a girl will go on "wild
card" system, said Kiran Atapattu the Secretary SLASU Interim Committee. |
