Lankans benefit by Colombo Plan's anti-drug drive

The Colombo Plan's focus has always been on human resource
development. Since 1951, over 400,000 scholars were provided with
various academic and technical skills of whom, 13,900 were trained since
1995," said the Colombo Plan Secretariat - Secretary General Patricia
Yoon-Moi Chia at the 17th All-Island Essay Competition awards ceremony
held at the Global Tower, Colombo recently.
Combatting the drug menace is not only the responsibility of the
Government. It requires a concerted effort of the community of which
NGOs from very important component like the Lions Clubs and other social
services organisations including schools and religious shrines, the
Secretary General said.
"Our programs which are Drug Advisory related, Public Administration
and Environment, private sector development and long-term scholarships
have benefited 1,136 Sri Lankans. Among the four current program, the
Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program, or CPDAP is the oldest program in
the region to address the issue of drug abuse. |
