It is a lovely Saturday afternoon and I’m alone here to play your
request. So all you have to do is bug me, I’m Sean and the time is
exactly 3 o’ clock, good afternoon.” Sonja laid awake listened to the
adopted joy and energy of the voice of the radio DJ. His reluctance to
dissolve his youth and energy on the weekend afternoon, away from
friends, family and whole lot of entertainment was not hidden under his
jubilance tone. Nevertheless his admission of sadness broadcasted his
bravery.
Sonja smiled. “Poor you!” she mouthed looking at the radio which
started playing a beautiful track a wife had dedicated to a husband. She
sighed trying to forget she has spent another week alone. Unless she
goes out on shopping with her mother or friends, Sonja’s Saturday
afternoons will be spent with the voice of Sean.
More than his invitation his beautiful husky voice provoked Sonja to
dial the number. However she didn’t have anyone to dedicate it to. Her
parents and siblings didn’t listen to the radio for they had more
important things in life.
“Never mind I’ll call!” she smirked.
“Good afternoon! This is Sean” his beautiful husky voice spoke.
“Hi Sean I’m Sonja!” “What can I play for you Sonja?” “Lonely No More
by Rob Thomas!” “I’ll play that for you. You want to dedicate it to
someone?” “Oh...oh...No...Um....Lets see... I’ll dedicate it to you”
“Thank you!” his voice smiled.
Then again and again this call was made to the radio station every
week, (not) to request a song, (not) to dedicate a song.
One day she didn’t call. When there was only a few minutes remaining
to end the program his beautiful voice spoke.
“This song is going out especially to Sonja; from me. lonely no more”
Sonja sat bolt upright. She tried to call him but the hotline was busy.
In the next week and the week after another very energetic voice
conducted the request show but his beautiful voice was no more. Then one
day, there was a dedication.
“This song is going out to special someone of Sean who is in Thailand
right now.
Time after time! The time is 3.30 p.m. good afternoon.
Sonja listened to the beautiful voice sing, ‘If you fall, I will
catch you, I’ll be waiting.’ time after time.’ Spell bound. Mesmerised. |
