Boost for fish purchase in North

The Fisheries Corporation in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force on Resettlement infrastructure development and Security will launch 281 temporary fish purchasing centres in the Northern Province under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" accelerated Development Program. The Fisheries Ministry has invested Rs. 30 million in this venture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Minister Felix Perera told the Sunday Observer.

These Purchasing Centres will be set up at Mannar, Mullaitive and Jaffna districts. The project will be completed within 6 month under the 180 days development program, he said.The Ministry will consider setting up permanent purchasing centres for the development of the fishing industry in Northern Province, Minister Felix Perera said.

According to the Minister as the first step the Fisheries Corporation will open temporary fish purchasing centres at Wankale. Silawathura, Talimannar and Pesalai in Mannar district, the investment is Rs. 8 million. The Ministry invest Rs. 10 million to launch the purchasing centres at Chundikulam, Thalady, Myliddy, Point Pedro, Nagarakovil, Madagal, Jaffna and Karainagar in Jaffna district.

The Ministry will invest Rs. 12 million to set up centres in the Mullaitivu district.
