NHDA focus on housing for IDPs

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has deployed 100
trained field officers in the North to be engaged in the housing
construction process for the IDPs, NHDA sources said.
Meanwhile the NHDA conducted a workshop recently for the technical
officers who are engaged in the housing construction activities in the
North under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" 180 days accelerated Northern
development program.
After inaugurating the workshop, NHDA Chairman A.I. Wickrame said
that the objective of this training workshop is to bestow the required
knowledge and training in the construction process of echo-friendly
permanent houses using the building materials found in the surroundings.
The workshop was organised by Uthuru Wasanthaya National Development
Program steering committee Chairman, Senior Presidential Advisor Basil
Rajapaksa and on the directive of Housing and Common Amenities Minister
Ferial Ashraff.
The technical officers of NHDA from Vavuniya, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and
Mullaitivu took part in the workshop.
According to this program the NHDA will select the suitable sites for
the project and will introduce appropriate technology and low cost
building materials.
Vavuniya District Secretary M. Sivabalasundaram, Local Government
Commissioner of Vavuniya S. Achchudan and NHDA Vavuniya District Manager
V. Ganeshananthan were also present. |
