NHDA focus on housing for IDPs

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has deployed 100 trained field officers in the North to be engaged in the housing construction process for the IDPs, NHDA sources said.

Meanwhile the NHDA conducted a workshop recently for the technical officers who are engaged in the housing construction activities in the North under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" 180 days accelerated Northern development program.

After inaugurating the workshop, NHDA Chairman A.I. Wickrame said that the objective of this training workshop is to bestow the required knowledge and training in the construction process of echo-friendly permanent houses using the building materials found in the surroundings.

The workshop was organised by Uthuru Wasanthaya National Development Program steering committee Chairman, Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and on the directive of Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff.

The technical officers of NHDA from Vavuniya, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu took part in the workshop.

According to this program the NHDA will select the suitable sites for the project and will introduce appropriate technology and low cost building materials.

Vavuniya District Secretary M. Sivabalasundaram, Local Government Commissioner of Vavuniya S. Achchudan and NHDA Vavuniya District Manager V. Ganeshananthan were also present.
