Browns signs agreement with Agriculture Insurance Board

In a significant move to promote farming and agriculture in Sri Lanka, Brown & Co. PLC signed an agreement with the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board to supply the farming community with agriculture equipment.

This private/public sector partnership which falls under the 'Api Wawamu, Rata Nagamu' Presidential initiative will enable farmers to own a Tafe or Sifang tractor to reach high productivity levels in the agriculture sector. This new concept is a segment of the Presidential initiative to help farmers, reach self-sufficiency in their respective occupation.

Group Managing Director/CEO of Brown & Co. Murali Prakash said, "We are happy to have tied up with the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) in this venture. Browns have been the pioneers in agricultural mechanization in the country through its world renowned range of equipment and services. Therefore, we are pleased to offer our high quality TAFE four wheel and Sifang two wheel tractors for this venture. We are confident that through this program we could improve productivity levels of our farmers & in turn improve their quality of life."

This agreement will provide farmers with free insurance for the Tafe and Sifang tractors, free medical insurance cover for farmers, while Brown & Co. would provide special financing facilities, free registration and technical assistance to facilitate the agro-mechanization process.

This new scheme would facilitate high productivity and efficiency levels while bringing down cost to farmers through agriculture mechanization which would be gained by the use of Tafe and Sifang tractors in their daytoday operations. With 9000 Agriculture Agrarian Insurance Board Officers Islandwide, it is hoped that a larger percentage of the farming community will have access to this facility.
