'Clean Room' concept comes into play with 'Tiara'
The concept of manufacturing in a Clean Room is well-known to makers
of computer chips and hypersensitive equipment. The CBL Foods
International Ltd., a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL)
pioneered in taking this idea into the manufacture of foods.
In Sri Lankan society, a cake is not just a cake, but an offering
that is traditionally taken as a gift for the family when visiting
friends and relatives. The custom is prevalent in Sri Lanka across all
segments of the society, even in deep rural communities.
However, cakes have a very limited shelf life. As a result most
commercially made cakes in the market are confined to the area in which
they are manufactured.
Except Tiara cakes which are made in the only 'Clean Room'
environment in Sri Lanka at the CBL Foods International factory in
Ranala.
This ensures the cakes retain their flavour and freshness for up to
seven long months and consumers even in far off hamlets in Sri Lanka can
confidently enjoy the delicious taste of Tiara cakes and take them along
for family gatherings.
The Clean Room concept is new to the food industry in Sri Lanka and
CBL Foods were quick to adopt to the process that sets them apart in
cake manufacture.
A Clean Room has a low level of environmental pollutants such as
dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles and chemical vapours that are
commonly found in the air we breathe.
