presents a scholarship to one of the students. |
The Citizens Development Business Finance Ltd (CDB) awarded
scholarships to children of three-wheeler owners who obtained the
highest results at the 2008 Grade 5 scholarship exam and the 2007 GCE
O/L exam. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof. Carlo Fonseka,
Founder Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya and
author of 'Towards a Peaceful Sri Lanka'.
A total of 19 boys and 12 girls from different socio income groups
gathered at the BMICH with their parents to receive these scholarships
as part of CDB Sisudiri' Season 02, Sri Lanka's first ever such
scholarship programme.
The children were each given scholarships whereby the Grade 5 winners
will receive cash on an annual basis until they complete their O/L exam.
The O/L winners will also receive cash on an annual basis until they
complete their A/L exam thus being more beneficial for a longer period
of time. Chief Executive Officer of the Citizens Development Mahesh
Nanayakkara said the Company was happy to continue this programme for
the benefit of the children of three-wheeler owners. Three wheeler
owners render a great service to society at large. Just as any of us,
they too have dreams of meaningfully educating their children and seeing
them doing better in life. The CDB's first ever such project of its kind
which assists these children in their education. We're happy to join
hands with their parents and help them realise that dream, he said.
