Educating farmers on e-Agriculture
Navagoviya.org Pilot Project was launched recently at Hingurakgoda
CIC Farm by Keerthi Kotagama, Managing Director of CIC on the invitation
of Wasantha Duggannarala, Navagoviya Project Director, witnessed by over
100 guests from Media and CIC agribusinesses.
Rural farmers are getting ready to go back to school of e-Agriculture
with navagoviya.org, which delivers modern agriculture knowledge in
Sinhala and Tamil Languages.
Navagoviya Project implemented through Nenasala is a fine example, of
how ICTs can be used to improve lives of rural farmers of Sri Lanka.
Navagoviya Project implemented by CIC Agribusinesses with ICTA e-SDI
partnership assistance. The project aims to develop rural farmers with
modern farming knowledge to encourage sustainable agriculture practices
in Sri Lanka.
The 587 Nenasala Network established by ICTA in rural communities
will become access points for Modern Agriculture Knowledge with the
Navagoviya Project. The project produced electronic content on modern
Agriculture in Sinhala and Tamil Languages on a curriculum developed by
Agriculture Faculty of University of Peradeniya. A group of Telecenter
Operators were trained as e Agriculture learning facilitators to
introduce Modern Agriculture to rural farmers. Navagoviya aims to assist
Rural farmers access highest knowledge sources in Modern Agriculture to
develop Agriculture livelyhood economic opportunities in rural
communities of Sri Lanka.
