Outgoing IGP outlines Police achievements

Over 43 prominent underworld kingpins are now behind bars and several others have been killed during confrontations with the Police, the outgoing Inspector General of Police, Jayantha Wickramaratne said.

He told the Sunday Observer that after ending the war against the LTTE in May, President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave instructions to the Police to eliminate underworld crime and the police in its ‘war against the underworld’ had successfully controlled these activities. He said full credit should go to the STF which busted a major underworld haunt in Maligawatte.

Thanking the President and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for the support given to maintain law and order,31st IGP, retired after 35 years at service of the Department of Police.
