Well-known German social service activist Dr. Armin and his wife
Elizabeth Wegener together with Mohamed Shahul Hameed and his wife
Lidwina Storey domiciled in Germany have extended their patronage to
promote the living standards of the lower income groups in Sri Lanka.
They are engaged in this yeoman service for more than thirty years in
Sri Lanka.During their first visit in 1986 Dr. Armin and his wife
Elizabeth Wegener adopted a female child as the symbol of visiting Sri
Lanka and to build up the bilateral relationship prevailing between both
countries.
Dr. Armin said that the prevailing peaceful situation in Sri Lanka
after the eradication of LTTE terrorism removes the barricades to reach
the people in the Northern part of the country.
Since 1986 they are regularly visiting Sri Lanka and closely watching
the needs of the poor community. It led them to identify and solve
several problems of the poverty stricken society in this country.
Dr. Armin stated that they also raised funds to help the tsunami
affected community in Sri Lanka.
They are keen to take part in the wellbeing of Sri Lankans he added.
Armin noted that for the past three to four years they are supporting
different communities at different level and raise money in Germany for
this purpose.
We have organised a fund to sponsor and to raise funds in order to
support poor families and poor children.
Wheel chairs, sewing machines and other important components have
been donated by them to the people who are in need. |
