Mahaweli Uyana Playground to be a sports stadium

SPORTS STADIUM: Mahaweli Uyana Playground of Watapuluwa, Kandy will be developed into a fully fledged sports stadium in the near future and this project will be handled jointly by the Kandy Municipal Council headed by the Mayor of Kandy L. B. Aluwihare and the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation headed by its President, General Anurudha Ratwatte.

Once this project is completed, a 400-metre track, Indoor Stadium for various indoor games, a Swimming Pool etc, will be there and it will be hired to the public for a nominal fee.In this regard a meeting was held recently at the Town Hall, Kandy attended by General Anurudha Ratwatte, Maurice Perera, Lesley Soysa, Deva Amunugama and Sunil Munasinghe of the KDSDF and Mayor L. B. Aluwihare, Deputy Mayor Suminda Wickremasinghe, Leader of the Opposition, Sena Dissanayake and the Municipal Commissioner, Chandana Tennakoon of the Kandy Municipal Council.
