1,000 computer centres for North

One thousand computer training centres will be established in the North with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" 180-day accelerated Northern development drive, Senior Advisor to the Education Ministry Dr. S. Thanikasalam said.

He noted that computer education is essential for gaining knowledge in the present technology-driven era. Education activities could be made easier by using computers.

The computer centres will function as institutions affiliated to the schools. A coordinating centre for the computer institutes will also be established in Jaffna shortly, Thanikasalam added.
