Swedish Golf Classics 2009 on Nov. 28

GOLF: Swedish Golf Classics 2009 - one of the major golfing events to
be staged at Victoria organised by the Swedish Community living there
will be worked off on a grand scale with the support of Victoria Golf
and Country Resort at the Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Kandy
next Saturday - November 28.
Sujeewa Lankatillake - one of the prime movers of this grand golfing
event said that over 100 golfers from both Sri Lanka and abroad are
expected to participate at this classic golfing event carrying a large
number of prizes. Swedish Golf Classic was first started many years for
the Rolfs Cup to coincide with the birthday of a sporting legendary Rolf
Tibblin who was five times world motor cross champion representing his
country Sweden before an injury cut his career short. He later took to
motor car racing and has the fastest lap timing in one of the leading
tracks in Sweden. The machines which won the World Motocross
Championship are now on display at the museum in Sweden. He was recently
honoured at the 'Country Hall of Fame' and one of the few motor racing
champions to be bestowed with this honour.
The two major trophies which are on offer are the 'Swedish Classic
Trophy' for the Best Stableford Net Score and the 'Rolf Cup' for the
seniors over 65 years.
The defending Swedish Classic Trophy champion is India golfer Sushil
Kumar and the Rolf Cup champion is Englishman Ian Tait. In addition to
this, there will be also Men's and Ladies' Gross and Net Championship in
two categories of Gold and Silver depending on the handicap and there
will be eight competitions here. There will be also the Longest Drive,
Nearest to the Pin and Nearest to the Lins for Ladies and Gentlemen.
Lastly the Novices will have the nine hole competition.
Entry forms could be had from Victoria Golf and Country Resort,
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club and Royal Colombo Golf Club and entries will
close on November 26 at 4 p.m. which will be followed by the draw.
