3 die, 377,282 affected:
Floods lash North-East

The recent floods caused due to depression in the Bay of Bengal
lashed, Jaffna, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee
Districts, Disaster Management Centre sources (DMC) said.
According to the sources altogether 102,386 families numbering
377,282 persons have been affected in these districts resulting in three
deaths.
One death in South West Manmunai in Batticaloa while two in Ampara,
due to lightning were reported.
According to sources 2,067 families numbering 6,808 persons in Jaffna
District, 83 families numbering 288 persons in Polonnaruwa District,
1,133 families in Ampara District, 92,696 families numbering 346,301
persons in Batticaloa District and 6,417 families numbering 26,084
persons in Trincomalee District have been affected.
Altogether 77 Grama Niladari Divisions have been affected in the
flood hit districts. Kinniya and Muttur are the Divisional secretariat
Divisions where the large number of Grama Niladari Divisions have been
affected. Twenty two Grama Niladari Divisions in Kinniya Divisional
Secretariat Division and 21 Grama Niladari Division in Muttur Divisional
Secretariat Division have also been affected.
Two hundred and eight houses were fully damaged while 1,919 houses
were partly damaged.
Accordingly fully damaged houses, 71 in Manmunai West and 61 Manmunai
South have been identified.
Sources added that 1,221 houses were partly damaged in Manmunai West
and 142 houses in Manmunai South.
Altogether 19 IDP camps have been set up to provide temporary shelter
to the affected people. |
