'Visions', the art exhibition by the young and enthusiastic artist
Menaka Karunaratne will be held at the National Art Gallery, Colombo 7
on January 3 and 4. A student of the Ceylon Society of Arts for one year
she was guided by the instructions of tutors Pulasri Ediriweera and
Jayantha Tissera. A former student of Kegalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Menaka's interest in art started off from her very young days. She
offered the subject for her O/Levels and A/Levels and is happy that her
interest in the subject has held her in good stead.
"My exhibition will contain about 30 exhibits comprising oil, acrylic
and watercolours. The subjects I've chosen include portraits,
landscapes, still life and wildlife as well. This year I won the first
prize for wildlife painting, first prize for landscape, for all round
artistry and the first prize for composition which focuses on
creativity, colour combination and expression.
The prizes were awarded by the Ceylon Society of Arts", enlightens
Menaka. The opening of 'Visions' will be held on January 2 at 3.30 p.m.
The chief guests will be Basil Rajapaksa and Pushpa Rajapaksa. On that
day Menaka will be launching her website menaka-art.com
The exhibition is open to the public on January 3 and 4.

A concert to mark the 75 years of veteran artist Rohana Baddege's
contribution to the field of art will be held at the Elphinston Theatre
on January 2010 , at 6.30 p.m.

Debayo
Jayasena Jayakody’s Sinhala novel Debayo will be launched at
Dayawansa Jayakody Book Exhibition Hall, Ven S. Mahinda Mawatha, Colombo
10 on December 29.
Jayakody is the author of several other novels such as Amavessa
Gothama Geethaya and Pichchamala.
