Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera calls for trouble-free election campaign
by Ananda KANNANGARA
At this juncture, when the whole nation is focusing on electing a
President, politicians and their supporters must refrain from making
unnecessary statements and slinging mud at each other, Public Service
United Nurses Union President Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera told the
Sunday Observer yesterday.
The Ven. Thera called upon all politicians and their supporters to
carry out a trouble-free election campaign, since even the international
community is keeping a close tab on the day to day political
developments in our country.
He also requested the supporters of all candidates, especially the
two main candidates, to express their future development plans which are
to be carried out after the election.
"Now, when the country is completely liberated from terrorism, our
next objective is to develop the country's economy," he said.
The Thera said he heard about a few election violations that had
occurred in some villages during the past few days and requested all
people not to engage in any form of unlawful activities during this
period and, especially on the election day.
He also requested both print and electronic media personnel to make
their news reports and programs without tarnishing the personal images
of candidates. |
