More professionals, academics into politics



Minister G.L. Peiris addresses the students and teachers of the Rajarata University. Minister Duminda Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University, K. Nandasena and Prof. Ariya Lagamuwa are also present.

More professionals and academics are involved in politics than ever before, said Minister of Export Development and International Trade, Prof. G.L. Peiris, who was addressing the academic staff of Rajarata University in Anuradhapura recently.

He addressed them on the issues before the country at the upcoming Presidential Election.Minister of Petroleum Resources Duminda Dissanayake was also present.

Minister Peiris said that large numbers of academics and professionals, who had kept aloof from political activity in the past, are engaging themselves actively in the current election campaign because of the fundamental importance of the issues involved.

He had a separate meeting with student leaders of the Rajarata University and discussed their participation in the campaign.

Prof. Peiris took part in the opening of the main office of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in Nochchiyagama, in Anuradhapura West. He was joined at this event by Minister Duminda Dissanayake and Deputy Minister of Highways Development W. B. Ekanayake.
