"Galle Season 2009" in full bloom from today
"Galle Season 2009", a series of events, designed to recreate and
reawaken the olden day "Galle Season" placing an emphasis on the
traditions and way of life in the South, with an overall focus on the
majestic and historic Dutch Fort, Galle Season which commences today,
will conclude on Thursday, Dec. 31. The event will be held under the
guidance of Kemakumara Nanayakkara, Minister of Agriculture, in his
capacity as Chairman of Galle Season Committee and President of the
Galle Library Committee.
The Minister's brainchild aims to raise funds for the development and
enhancement of the Galle Library, one of the most historic libraries in
Sri Lanka which was built in 1932.
The Galle Library celebrated 175 years of existence last year.
Galle Season 2009 is set to be a celebration that has something for
everyone, from children, youth, adults, tourists to the expatriate
community among others.
The even will focus mainly on the historic Dutch Fort and its
surroundings, with cultural pageants featuring local and traditional
entertainment, fashion shows with period designs, carnivals, street
parades, photography exhibitions, antique furniture exhibitions, an Army
tatoo, display of weapons of the LTTE seized by the Armed Forces during
the humanitarian operations in the North, horticultural and agricultural
exhibitions, ornamental fish exhibition, auto show, old cricks, rally,
food festivals, firework displays, film classics and drama screening and
fire dancers among the host of other exciting events planned. Each day
will commence with religious activities. |
